From Issue 74 of Breakthrough Magazine, this Whitetail Deer photo was submitted by Breakthrough publisher Larry Blomquist of Louisiana. Larry took this series of photos several years ago in Sally Dahmes' (WASCO) deer pen. The deer was a buck named Forrest. Sally asked, "Have you ever witnessed a whitetail retract its nictitating membrane back over its eye?" When she tickled inside Forrest's ear, it happened. Larry did not know he captured the millisecond movement until he returned home and had the film developed. Larry was using a Nikon macro lens with a two-strobe ring-flash with one strobe activated. All four photos are of the same deer.
